Peter Brook goes further than the book. [...] Splendid and wild." Télérama

During World War II, a British plane bound for Australia crashes on a desert island. Only the children survive, now deprived of adult authority. Left to their own devices in a wild and heavenly nature, they try to organize themselves. But their group is shattered and gives way to a tribal, savage and violent organization built around a charismatic leader...

Adapted from the classic of British literature written by William Golding, His Majesty of the Flies is a wonderful reflection on the return to the wild. Around a group of young boys, Peter Brook dismantles any notion of modern civilization by creating a tribal micro-society, where rites and physical violence emanate as much from childish cruelty as from the instinct for survival. Available for the first time in its restored 4K version, His Majesty of the Flies is a masterpiece of devastating physical and moral power, somewhere between Ingmar Bergman's The Hour of the Wolf and the Lost series.

ABOUT THE EDUCATIONAL DVD-Rom
The edition of Sa Majesté des Mouches offers an accompanying DVD-Rom for teachers who wish to extend the discovery of the film with their students. This supplement explores the dialogue between filmmaker Peter Brook and novelist William Golding, Nobel Prize for Literature in 1983.

A real work tool for the school world, this educational DVD-Rom favors a dynamic relationship to the work by exploiting the resources of multimedia writing. It uses procedures that facilitate circulation, identification in the film and its viewing: an active sequential drop-down, a thematic time line , the possibility of viewing the sequences in parallel.

The main axes of the film are approached there in the form of detailed analyses: psychology of the characters, study of sound and music, questions of anthropology, aesthetic orientations (the different territories of the island, etc.), historical landmarks (context of making the film…), interpretation of the emblems of the island (conch, spear, glasses, fly…).

This DVD-Rom also makes it possible to understand the various aspects of cinematographic production (direction of actors, sound, music and staging) while providing documents related to the production or distribution of the film (posters, trailer and photos of filming).

Particular attention is paid to these documents relaying fragments of the film: contact sheets of photograms, musical scores, complete list of dialogues, extracts from the novel in French and English… Not to mention general tools such as glossary, bibliography and webography.
