" The Tree of Hooves is an act of faith in the transmission of life and mystical durability [...] a masterpiece." Telerama
At the end of the 19th century, on a large farm in the Bergamo region, five families lived according to the goodwill of their owners. From autumn to spring, when the fields give a little respite, life takes back its rights, reviving at the same time their feelings, their fears and their hopes...
Shot with a striking sense of realism, L'Arbre aux sabots is one of the great Italian rural frescoes, along with 1900 by Bernardo Bertolucci , in which a real social reflection emerges from the description of peasant daily life. Written, directed and edited by Ermanno Olmi, L'Arbre aux sabots is a return to the roots of a bygone era, rewarded with numerous awards, including Best Foreign Film at the 1979 César.
