Outside - When photography takes over cinema
Morris Engel and Ruth Orkin
by Stefan Cornic
Outside , based on material from the cult film, Le Petit Fugitive , acclaimed by François Truffaut, presents the different stages of the photographic and cinematographic work of Morris Engel and Ruth Orkin. Through their work on the image, this exceptional couple was at the origin of a new cinematographic style which revolutionized the history of cinema.
The book discusses their training, their references, their favorite subjects, the tools they invented, and their works, produced in the press and on screens. It thus offers, in addition to a didactic presentation, all the iconographic elements (unpublished photos, photograms, archive documents) in
able to resituate the contribution of these two figures of independent American cinema.
