The first film by Stanley Kwan, director of Rouge and Center Stage
AVAILABLE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE WORLD ON BLU-RAY
When she discovers her husband's infidelity, Bao-er immediately files for divorce. She then joins the ranks of "happily ever after" single women, a group her best friends have already joined. Determined not to let it get her down, Bao-er must learn to build a new life with her young son, Dang-dang, while her ex-husband makes his relationship with his mistress official…
From his very first feature film, director Stanley Kwan reveals a clear affinity and talent for romance and delicately portraying women. Women initially presents itself as a delightful remarriage comedy, a modern variation on George Cukor's famous The Women , before embracing an intimate drama by exploring themes of romantic disillusionment, loneliness, and the search for meaning in life. Supported by the impeccable performances of his trio of actors (Cora Miao, Chow Yun-fat, and Cherie Chung Cho-hung), Stanley Kwan brilliantly and sensitively examines female anguish in this film, which foreshadows the moving films Rouge and Center Stage .
