A CULT AND PUNK 80S CLOSED BETWEEN HITCHCOCK AND PECKINPAH
FOR THE FIRST TIME ON BLU-RAY
“A GREAT SUCCESS.”
NICOLAS BOUKHRIEF, STARFIX
O ne Friday evening, at closing time, four people find themselves stuck in the same elevator: Jörg, a dashing advertising executive; Marion, his lovely colleague and former mistress; Gössmann, an accountant of few words; and Pit, a casual young courier. Quickly understanding that no one will come to their aid, they decide to free themselves on their own. But the undertaking proves to be perilous and tensions soon arise within the group...
By taking on the well-known behind-closed-doors genre, director Carl Schenkel creates an explosive work between a psychological thriller and an action film. Out of Order excels in making palpable the sensation of oppression and confinement experienced by its characters – including the excellent Götz George ( The Man of Death ) and Renée Soutendijk ( Spetters ) – through a dizzying staging which adds to the anxiety. With its metaphor of the broken elevator as a symbol of a society at the end of its rope, Out of Order turns into a sarcastic and cruel social fable. Sumptuously restored in 4K, Out of Order is available for the first time on Blu-ray™.
