A brilliant reflection on cinema by the director of Wings of Desire

AVAILABLE FOR THE FIRST TIME ON BLU-RAY

A film crew is shooting a remake of a science fiction film in Portugal, but money and film stock soon run out. The producer, a man named Gordon, is nowhere to be found, forcing the production to halt. Worried about their future, the actors and crew tirelessly await a possible resumption of filming and drink themselves into oblivion at night. The director, Friedrich Munro, tries to keep the project afloat…

The State of Things draws heavily on Wim Wenders' first Hollywood experience on his film Hammett – the filming of which had to be interrupted several times . This mise en abyme of cinema, in which we encounter directors Samuel Fuller and Roger Corman, questions the differences between European and American modes of production. and joins the pantheon of great reflective works on the seventh art, such as Day for Night or Contempt . Winner of the Golden Lion at the 1982 Venice Film Festival, The State of Things can be discovered on Blu-ray™ in its 4K restoration supervised by the Wim Wenders Foundation.
