A rare work of Portuguese cinema available for the first time
AVAILABLE FOR THE FIRST TIME ON BLU-RAY
In the late 1970s, in northern Portugal, the daily life of a small rural community unfolds peacefully: a father cuts down a tree, residents cross paths in the village square, meet at the Saturday fair or Sunday mass, children play and then participate in agricultural work... Yet, at the heart of this unchanging temporality, one figure stands out: that of Isabel, a young woman whose gaze yearns for a new horizon.
Shot on 16mm and produced between the late 1970s and mid-1980s, The Movement of Things bears the mark of a handcrafted and intimate approach by its director, Manuela Serra, and is her only feature film. Meditative and poetic, this film blurs the lines between documentary and fiction through a profoundly sensitive and organic experience. At once universal in its themes (time, memory, family) and fundamentally singular in its form and execution, The Movement of Things is a hypnotic and unclassifiable work, unique in its genre, to be discovered for the first time in its 4K restoration.
