Between The Stranger and the early films of Michael Haneke, a powerful drama from the director of Paris, Texas
AVAILABLE FOR THE FIRST TIME ON BLU-RAY
Josef Bloch, a professional goalkeeper, is sent off during a match. He wanders aimlessly through Vienna, checks into a hotel, and goes to the cinema. The next day, he spends the night with the hotel cashier and, for no apparent reason, strangles her early the following morning. Josef packs his belongings and travels to a village near the border, where his ex-girlfriend Hertha lives…
Surrounded by his future regular collaborators (Robby Müller behind the camera, Peter Przygodda editing), Wim Wenders began his collaboration with the Austrian writer Peter Handke by adapting one of his novels. The headlong flight of his antihero, reminiscent of the existential wandering of the protagonist in Albert Camus's *The Stranger *, is presented with a restrained and stylized mise-en-scène, revealing an inimitable style. Awarded at the 1972 Venice Film Festival, *The Goalkeeper's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick * is now available on Blu-ray™ in a 4K restoration supervised by the Wim Wenders Foundation.
