Directed in 1954 by Giuseppe De Santis, one of the founders of Italian neorealism with films like Bitter Rice or Bloody Easter , Days of Love is one of his romantic and sentimental works, with here an assumed penchant for comedy. Filmed in his hometown of Fondi, this story of a love thwarted by material difficulties combines commedia dell'arte, keen social observation and stylized lyricism.
