THE WORLD
A masterpiece of modernity and a testament to the New Wave as much as to the libertarian aspirations of May 68, The Mother and the Whore could well be the tree that hides the dense forest of Jean Eustache's work. Alternating documentaries ( Number zero , La Rosière de Pessac ) and short fictions ( Santa Claus has blue eyes , Les Photos d'Alix ) or long (up to the monumental 3h40 of La Maman et la Putain ), the relentless authenticity of Jean Eustache, filmmaker of desire and the intimate, shines in each of his films: from the sunny and flayed youth of My Little Lovers to the Bataillean vertigo of A Dirty Story . Brought together for the first time in this 6 Blu-ray™ Box Set, this incredible work, of breathtaking sincerity, can be admired in its splendid restored version.

• NEARLY 3 HOURS OF EXCLUSIVE TELEVISION AND RADIO ARCHIVES
Numerous television and radio archives on the filming of the films, at the Festival
Cannes, on-set interviews, long-winded interviews with Jean Eustache.
• “THE EVENING”: AN UNFINISHED FILM BY JEAN EUSTACHE
Loosely inspired by a short story by Maupassant, La Soirée is the first project written entirely by Jean Eustache, shot in 16 mm without sound. In a very New Wave atmosphere, a man played by Paul Vecchiali invites friends to read to them a text on cinema of which he is the author and which has just been published.
• “BAD ATTENDANCES”: CUT SHOTS, TESTS AND IMAGES FROM THE FILMING
• “ODETTE ROBERT” (1980 – B&W – 54 mins)
In 1971, Jean Eustache screened Number Zero at home in front of eight spectators, including Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet, but did not plan to show his film to the general public. In 1980, he agreed to broadcast on television a short version of this work, entitled Odette Robert , as part of the documentary series Grand-mères .
• “THE LAST OF MEN, POSTFACE” (1968 – B&W – 28 mins)
Filmed discussion, produced in 1968 by Jean Eustache for the TV slot of the CNDP (National Center for Educational Documentation) “Let’s go to the cinema”. Critics André S. Labarthe, Jean Domarchi and director Marc'O debate Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau's film, The Last of Men .
• “THE LITTLE MATCH MERCHANT, POSTFACE” (1969 – B&W – 26 mins)
Explanatory afterword to Jean Renoir's film, La Petite Marchande d'Allettes , produced in 1969 by Jean Eustache for the TV slot of the CNDP (National Center for Educational Documentation) “Let's go to the cinema”. Jean Renoir talks about the shooting conditions of his film at the Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier forty years ago. He talks about the filmmakers who influenced him and highlights the difference that he believes exists in cinema between realism and truth.
