Shortly after, Raoul Mons is found dead, naked, on the beach. Inspector Lavardin is called to the scene. He will investigate…
"I had a script that had been hanging around for a while, the story of which had a too romantic side. I told myself that if I used Lavardin in this script, it would sweep away the slightly "cheesy" aspect. I took out my notes and said to Dominique Roulet: "We have to inject Lavardin in there." […] The introduction of Lavardin produced a sort of chemical reaction that stripped away any mawkishness in the subject." – Claude Chabrol
