A young girl from the Filipino middle class, Bona has stopped going to high school. She prefers to follow Gardo, a supporting actor in low-budget films. Her attitude ends up exasperating her father, who kicks her out. Bona moves in with Gardo. Just when she thinks she can finally have a love affair with him, the young girl becomes his maid, forced to endure the endless parade of his many conquests...
A centerpiece of Lino Brocka's ( Insiang , Manila ) oeuvre, selected in 1981 for the Directors' Fortnight, Bona received a standing ovation for its portrayal of social realities and the disillusionment of celebrity. A superstar actress from the Philippines, who also produced the film, Nora Aunor steals the show as Adele H.'s little sister, blinded by an unrequited love. This role, at odds with her national fame, would mark a turning point in her career, expanding her reputation as a talented and versatile actress. Unseen since its release, long considered lost, Bona is available for the first time in its splendid 4K restoration!
