"The most delicious film of the Prague Spring, a marvel of humor, tenderness, roughness and humanity." OBS
I na small provincial town, a firefighters' ball is organized in honor of the fifty years of service of one of their own. In addition to a raffle, a miss beauty contest is set up to give the gift to the veteran. But nothing goes as planned...
Fond of ball scenes of all kinds, Milos Forman makes this his main field of observation here: his "human comedy" is entirely built around the ball of the firefighters of a small town, where Kafkaesque absurdity unfolds, reaching heights of burlesque. No half measures in this political satire which will only be entitled to a brief release in Czech cinemas, before the repression of the Prague Spring. Milos Forman's first color work, Fire, Firefighters! will also be his last film shot in Czechoslovakia, before leaving for the United States.
