"An essay in the form of a masterstroke, and a very clever exercise in style." THE INCREDIBLES

A ndrzej and his wife Krystyna decide to go on a cruise. On a deserted country road, they pick up a young student and offer him to accompany them to sea. The social difference between the couple and their guest will quickly cause some friction...

Influenced by the recent Plein Soleil by René Clément and by the cinema of Orson Welles, The Knife in the Water is Roman Polanski's first feature film, and the only film he will shoot in Poland in his mother tongue. Co-written with Jerzy Skolimowski ( Deep End ), The Knife in the Water marks the entry of Polish cinema into a new era, far from the precepts of socialist art, and carries the overflowing energy of a youth who refuses to comply with the standard.
