The first feature film by director Hsu Hsiao-ming, produced by the celebrated director Hou Hsiao-hsien, Dust of Angels uses a both realistic and stylized approach to describe the rise of juvenile violence in a Taiwanese society experiencing an economic boom. This hypnotic and dark work is in line with the New Taiwanese Cinema, while adopting a more raw and contemporary tone that brings it closer to American neo-noir.
