Active since the mid-1960s, he first worked as an assistant on the films of his father, the great Mario Bava, then on those of other filmmakers, from Dario Argento to Ruggero Deodato, before finally moving on to directing in 1980, with Macabro . The diptych consisting of Demons 1 and Demons 2 , instant classics of Italian horror, allowed him to assert a personal style and to be recognized by horror fans all around the world.
Lamberto Bava, an Italian filmmaker, represents the third generation of a film family that, until now, has four.
With a rich career spanning more than half a century, and for several years the author of science fiction and horror works in Italy, Lamberto Bava is a complete filmmaker who is close to his audience.
This proximity allowed the authors of this book to meet him several times and to exchange with him. Addressing the different genres in which he has worked until now, Lamberto Bava delivers himself with all simplicity.
The sum of these interviews paints the portrait of a man for whom cinema is above all a matter of family(ies) and technique. A means also of exploring fear through recurring themes and motifs which, throughout his career, draw a rational path building a coherent work rich in numerous cinematographic, literary and musical influences.
Gérald Duchaussoy works at the Cannes Film Festival and the Lumière Institute.
Romain Vandestichele is an English teacher. Passionate about cinema and music, singer in his spare time.
Together, Gérald Duchaussoy and Romain Vandestichele previously wrote the book Mario Bava, the magician of colors (Lobster Films editions).
