Following OZU & BERGMAN, FELLINI joins Carlotta Films' "Bible Format" collection
Having fallen in love with La Dolce Vita and 8½ in the heart of the sixties, while he was a student of Letters, Aldo Tassone had the chance to meet the filmmaker from Rimini as early as 1969, the year of Satyricon , through his faithful screenwriter, Ennio Flaiano.
Welcomed with open arms by Fellini, Aldo Tassone was then admitted as a permanent guest at Cinecittà, which allowed him to attend each of the director's shoots and to converse amicably with him for more than twenty years.
Immersed in the very creation of this abundant work, Aldo Tassone never ceased to explore its every nook and cranny, acquiring an unprecedented perspective and an unparalleled familiarity with one of the most original and revered filmmakers of the second half of the 20th century (as evidenced here by the confidences shared with the author by Orson Welles, Luis Buñuel, Akira Kurosawa, Michelangelo Antonioni, François Truffaut or Alain Resnais).
Each of the twenty-three and a half films that comprise Fellini's oeuvre is thus placed in perspective with unprecedented intimacy: the author reveals their genesis, analyzes their narrative and cinematic innovations, while tracing the director's evolution from post-war neorealism to the most sumptuous dreamlike and poetic creations. Furthermore, through an impressive selection of contemporary reviews, Aldo Tassone recreates the reception given in Italy, France, and the United States to the various films of this great filmmaker.
