This is the starting point for Sangre del Toro, an astonishing documentary film shot between his Mexican “casa de monstruos” and an unusual Parisian museum, where the Minotaur-like filmmaker walks through a labyrinth filled with childhood memories, cultural myths, and monsters to unveil the origins of his visionary films (The Devil's Backbone, Pan's Labyrinth), which marked the imagination of generations of viewers.
Director of numerous documentaries on cinema (The 1000 Eyes of Dr. Maddin, Citizen Kitano), Yves Montmayeur masterfully plunges us into the psyche of one of the 21st century's most singular artists.
