A RETROFUTURISTIC TRIBUTE TO SPY CINEMA WITH MUSIC BY SERGE GAINSBOURG
AVAILABLE FOR THE FIRST TIME ON BLU-RAY
“A FILMMAKER WHO LACKS NEITHER HUMOR OR TALENT.”
LE MONDE
The scientist Herbert Von Krantz developed a revolutionary process, the Annulator, for defusing nuclear weapons. His invention has since become the object of covetousness of all the secret services and small terrorist groups around the world. The paranoid scientist lives cloistered in his ultra-secure home with his daughter Sylvaine and his assistant Yvan, over whom he exercises formidable control. Around them, spies lurk and are ready to do anything to recover the Annulator's plans...
Missing link between Doctor Strangelove , Alphaville and the James Bond series, The Unknown Man of Shandigor is the first feature film by the gifted Jean-Louis Roy, member of Group 5, equivalent of the French-speaking Swiss New Wave, alongside Claude Goretta or Alain Tanner. A parodic variation of spy films, this cinematic UFO marvelously exploits Gaudí's retrofuturistic settings and Art Nouveau architecture with a frantic pace, close to comic strips. Played by the colorful Daniel Emilfork ( The City of Lost Children ), the disturbing Howard Vernon ( The Horrible Doctor Orloff ) and the brilliant Serge Gainsbourg, who composed and performed the song “Bye Bye Mister Spy” for the occasion, The Unknown Man of Shandigor' is available for the first time on Blu-ray™ in its sublime 4K restoration!
