In the 1950s, Hans, an alcoholic former police officer turned fruit and vegetable seller, is rejected by his family, filled with shame towards him. A heart attack suddenly forces him to hire a partner. Business resumes, and his family sees in him the man he really is. But Hans, for his part, begins to fade and darken...
The Merchant of the Four Seasons blurs the cynicism of Why is Monsieur R. suffering from murderous madness? while borrowing, in a roundabout way, part of its history. With simplicity, the realistic atmosphere takes on the air of tragedy, where pity, violence and sentimentality follow one another and react to the colors of each scene.
