M i-Août is a debt collector for a certain Mr. Wing, close to the local triads. His daily life will be turned upside down by two events: the discovery by Jacky, a little mentally handicapped thug whom he has taken under his wing, of two farewell letters left by a young suicide, and his meeting with the pretty Ah Ping whom he quickly falls in love. But the latter is suffering from an incurable disease…
Filmed a few months before Hong Kong's annexation to China, director Fruit Chan's third film conveys with rage the sense of urgency of this society with its uncertain future. A sentimental thriller carried by a troupe of non-academic actors, Made in Hong Kong shows the discomfort of a youth who have lost all bearings in the urban jungle of a megalopolis.
