A brilliant tribute to film noir with Charles Aznavour
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 4K UHD
“PLAYING ON BOTH DESIRE AND THE FORBIDDEN, SHOOT THE PIANIST POSSESSES THE CAREFULNESS OF A STOLEN KISS.”
THE WORLD
Charlie Kohler, a taciturn bar pianist, finds himself involved in the affairs of one of his brothers, Chico, a small-time crook, pursued by two crooks and who has come to seek refuge with him. In love with the shy musician, Lena, the bar waitress, will try to find out more about his mysterious identity, which went by the name of Édouard Saroyan... before her jealous boss gets involved...
Fresh from the triumphant success of The 400 Blows the previous year, François Truffaut turned passionately to crime fiction. Having suggested the idea for Breathless to Jean-Luc Godard, he humorously adapted the eponymous crime novel by David Goodis here, deploying a thrilling narrative that defies any linearity, in which he gave Charles Aznavour his greatest role in cinema – and Boby Lapointe a memorable cameo . Shoot the Piano Player is to be admired for the first time in its sumptuous 4K restoration!
