An awakening to love with timeless charm
Lucy Honeychurch (Helena Bonham Carter), a young English girl from a good family, stays in Florence, chaperoned by her old cousin Charlotte Bartlett (Maggie Smith). When Lucy falls in love with George Emerson (Julian Sands), son of a house on the fringes of the traditional bourgeoisie, family rigor hardens. Charlotte takes the initiative of a hasty return to London to break this budding love. But chance, or fate, brings the Emersons to the neighborhood...
