A moving and grandiose film about the tragic childhood of a little boy
New HD restoration
A ten-year-old boy travels through Japan with his father, stepmother and half-brother. The father, a war invalid, has devised a system of swindle allowing the family to support themselves: the mother-in-law throws herself under the wheels of the cars in order to extort money from the drivers. First a witness to the accidents, the little boy soon becomes the main actor in these deadly scams...
Based on a real news item, Le Petit Garçon is a cruel and dazzling tale about a flouted childhood. Nagisa Oshima once again tackles his key themes – criminality and the traditional Japanese family – using a more narrative and less experimental staging than before. The Little Boy is a true masterpiece in Oshima's filmography, to be seen in its majestic restored version!
