A poignant melodrama in a city plagued by violence and drugs
New 2K restoration
After thirty years of absence, the writer Fernando Vallejo returns to Medellín to die there. In a boys' brothel, he meets Alexis, a teenager from the poor neighborhoods. Alexis is a contract killer, and there's a contract on him. Between him and Fernando, a love relationship is established immediately. They move in together, spending their days wandering around the city plagued by violence. Despite Fernando's protests, Alexis kills several times in his defense, getting himself into more trouble...
“I had decided to shoot in high definition, because I wanted to make a film with a different method. I've always looked for the maximum depth of field, it's always been an obsession for me. […] I wanted shots where you feel the city, behind, permanently. High definition gives The Virgin of the Killers a documentary aspect, whereas in fact the film is completely written, nothing is improvised. […] The truth comes from this depth of field, from this special quality of the image. –Barbet Schroeder
