Between The Goonies And Evil Dead , a delirious dive from the director of Tetsuo in the universe of yokai Japanese

AVAILABLE FOR THE FIRST TIME ON BLU-RAY

“SHINYA TSUKAMOTO’S SECOND FILM WILL SURPRISE MORE THAN ONE.”
JEAN-PIERRE DIONNET

A high school teacher and his student mysteriously disappear during summer vacation. Before disappearing into the wild, Mr. Yabe contacted Reijiro Hieda, an archaeologist with eccentric methods, to tell him about a strange discovery he had just made. The scientist then arrives in the village and sets off in search of his friend alongside young Masao, the professor's son. Together, the unlikely duo will discover that the high school is located above an ancient mound which could well be an underground gate to hell...

Two years after the cyberpunk bomb Tetsuo , filmmaker Shinya Tsukamoto makes a 360-degree turn with this first commissioned film made for Shochiku Studios, based on the work of mangaka Daijiro Morohoshi. An improbable meeting between The Goonies , Evil Dead and Japanese ghost cinema, Hiruko the Goblin mixes gore terror and surreal humor with a lot of inventive special effects. Far from the urban and anxiety-provoking universe with which the director is often associated, Hiruko the Goblin depicts a magnified, almost contemplative nature, in the style of a pastoral horror. To be discovered for the first time on Blu-ray™ in its 2K restoration!
