Shot in 2001 by American Gus Van Sant, Gerry is a unique sensory object, inseparable from its two actors and co-writers, Casey Affleck ( Manchester by the Sea ) and Matt Damon ( Alone on Mars ). The filmmaker of Elephant and Paranoid Park is inspired by a news item to construct a mythological, almost metaphysical work, filmed in a series of sequence shots of bewildering beauty. Lost in this physical and mental labyrinth at the end of an emotional journey of rare intensity, the two heroes end up symbolizing all of humanity on their own, questioning our relationship to the world and to each other.
